Bio
Sarah Hull's practice is inspired by our connection to the universe and our understanding of it. Exploring the way in which scientific understanding shapes how we view the universe highlights how one discovery can change the way we see our own existence. Sarah contemplates our place within the universe and how we attempt to conceive theories to explain it. Her work forces the viewer to contemplate the invisible workings which combine to create our reality.
As part of her practice, Sarah creates installations in dark spaces which the viewer enters and becomes submersed. There is no reference to the outside world in the spaces and the viewer cannot make sense of the dimensions. She uses minimal light to create the illusion of forms which are suspended in infinite darkness. As the viewer moves through the space the forms change, causing them to question the assumptions they first made.
Her photographs and paintings are produced directly from the installations. They are created in order to unify several perspectives of the same object.
